More Info

When certain study procedures or activities are optional, and the participant chooses to do them, this is called opt-in.

Sometimes a consent form has multiple parts that participants can choose to opt-in for. For example, a participant might be asked to opt-in for specific study activities, like biobanking samples for future research.

Other info to think about when joining a study

You might see the term “opt-in” used to describe the choice you have about whether to do certain things in a study or have your data used beyond the original goals of the study.

If you have any questions about what is required to be in a study, and what activities are optional, please ask the study team. You can also ask the study team about what happens if you change your mind.
