eSignature eSignature

A way for a person to sign their name using a computer or device, instead of signing on paper.

eSignature can have different meanings in different contexts or countries.

There are a few different ways to provide an eSignature.

– a participant could be asked to provide an eSignature by using their finger or a stylus to sign their name on a digital form instead of a piece of paper.

– a participant could be asked to type their name into an electronic document as their eSignature.

You might hear about or see the term “eSignature” being used in a research study you are thinking about joining.

You can ask any questions about the documents you are signing, whether it be an ink signature or an eSignature.

You have the right to understand the information before you sign a clinical research consent form. You can also ask for the study team to give you a copy of the signed consent form.
