More Info

An antibody is a protein that is produced by the body’s immune system and causes an immune response.

Antibodies can be found in various areas of the body, including the blood, skin, lungs, tears, saliva, and even breast milk.

Antibodies can be produced in response to viruses, bacteria, parasites and even medications. Antibodies can sometimes recognize someone’s own body tissues and cause disease.

In some cases, antibodies can also be used as a treatment/therapy. For example, antibodies are sometimes used to fight cancer cells.

Other info to think about when joining a study

A research study may test whether a study treatment causes a person to develop antibodies to a disease. It may also test an antibody to see if it can treat a disease.

If you have any questions about antibodies or immune reactions, you can ask the study team.
